Wire Sculpture.
USA Olympic Gymnast.
The sculpture uses line to articulate motion by the angle and proportions of the different parts. The placement of the legs shows the graceful leap of the gymnast. The arms stretch out as if it were flying. The sculpture is the final product of my many drawings and sketches, and it shows how I have grown as an artist. In the past, I have had trouble with proportion. This sculpture shows how much better I have become at refining my artwork, but I still have a long ways to go. It took a while to make my brain think in 3D and outside the box, but eventually new ideas formed and I was able to make my final product look slightly abstract. My preliminary sketches did not have hair or a designed leotard, but as the project went on I was able to improve my basic sketches and come up with new ideas. My sculpture turned into not just a leaping gymnast, but a real piece of artwork.
