Shape and Composition

Photogram Diptych and Collage Composition

The shapes in my collage came from objects I saw around me and drew, including my shoe.  I cut out many shapes, and had an excess amount.  Through trial and error, I finally decided on how to layout my final collage.  In the dark room, I explored with different objects, lighting, and time.  With the help of a peer, I was able to find objects that would contrast my other piece.  The collage was very curvy and had rhythm, so I was looking for straight edged objects.  I decided on having the photogram demonstrate some movement as a different form, or style of rhythm.  The end composition required a lot of persistence and trials, but my techniques benefited.  The focus of shape also got myself to think outside the box and more abstractly.  Looking at my composition now, I am very pleased at the end result.  Everything I have done, all of the slight adjustments, payed off to form a composition I am very proud of.

Black and White Collage

Black and White Collage

Dark Room Preview

The black and white collage demonstrates balance, but has more negatived space than positive space.  For the second composition in the dark room, the piece will be of a crayon box overflowing of crayons.  The collage shows more smooth shapes, and the piece in the dark room would contrast by demonstrating sharp edges.  The new piece will also have more positive space compared to the collage, due to the many crayons that I will lay out in the dark room.
